Scuba Diving Koh Tao

Enjoy a day scuba diving Koh Tao from Koh Phangan (for certified divers only). Asia Blue – Scuba make regular trips to Koh Tao each week where you get the chance to dive one of the many different dive sites. Some of the most popular scuba diving Koh Tao sites include:

Chumphon Pinnacle

A series of underwater pinnacles roughly 11 kilometres from Koh Tao’s northernmost point. It is completely surrounded by deeper waters ensuring a world class dive site. Regular sightings of Whale Sharks, Grey Reef Sharks and Bull Sharks make this dive site an absolute ‘must do’! The pinnacles themselves are completely carpeted with sea anemone, schools of Batfish, Barracudas, Trevally and Fusiliers creating a spectacular scene.

South West Pinnacle

A series of submerged boulders approximately 13 kilometres away from Koh Tao. Due to its remote location, it is an excellent dive site to encounter large schools of Barracudas, Jacks, Trevally and Fusiliers. There is also the possibility of seeing the odd Whale Shark and Leopard Shark. The dive site itself is magnificent with masses of multi coloured black coral, large Potato and Brown Marbled Grouper, Moray Eel and much, much more. If you are feeling adventurous you can even try to find the secret pinnacles!

Koh Tao Twins

On the far side of Koh Nang Yuan starting at around 5 meters below the surface and dropping to a depth of 18 metres is Twin Peaks or “Twins”. This is an ideal site for beginners due to its depth and ease of navigation. The rocks are embedded into white sand and there is certainly no shortage of marine life here. A friendly pair of rare Saddleback Clownfish can be found to the western side of the larger Twins.

Mango Bay

Located to the North of Koh Tao and makes a nice relaxing dive. With depths ranging from 2 to 15 metres it is ideal for beginners and snorkelers. Hard and soft coral formations here are plentiful, along with a variety of sponges and clams. The bay is only accessible by boat and makes a popular snorkelers day trip. Drop in further around the North-Western tip of the island and drift into the bay area to avoid the crowds.

White Rock

Made up from two large granite boulders with an expansive coral garden at around 10 metres. The site is teaming with schools of Butterflyfish and Angelfish. Blue Spotted Stingrays are also a common sight on this dive. White Rock is also a popular night dive spot where Feather Stars and an array of Crustacean’s can been seen hunting for food.

Red Rock

It starts at around 2 metres and drops to 22 metres. The main attractions to this site are the swim throughs. The entrance to the swim through can be found when you leave the pinnacle and head west towards Koh Nang Yuan. This is usually done in combination with a dive down to Japanese Garden where you can relax for the safety stop.

Green Rock

Offering several small swim throughs, caves and crevices where marine life can be seen sheltering. The boulders range in depth from 5 metres down to around 32 metres. There is often a strong current here that you can use to drift around the submerged pinnacles therefore it is not recommended for inexperienced divers. You will certainly encounter Yellow Margin and Titan Trigger fish here as it forms a popular breeding ground for them.

Shark Island

Named after its resemblance to the dorsal fin of a shark. This small rocky island just off the coast of Koh Tao offers some of the most diverse marine life in The Gulf of Thailand. Expect to see several types of Angel, Butterfly, Surgeon, Trigger, Puffer, Porcupine and Banner fishes. Large Groupers and Barracuda patrol the outer fringes and Black and White Tip Reef Sharks can be spotted on the deeper part of the site. The Southern End of the island boasts a beautiful soft coral garden.
